As the sun rose on the schools across America, students gathered at their
school flagpole. They were not gathering for an early class, or to discuss homework or
after school plans. This Wednesday morning September 15th 1999 brought students together
to sing, praise God, and pray. America Praying On-Line watched as |
| Carroll County Students formed groups or circles around flagpoles to sing songs praising Gods glory and love and to hear testimonies of salvation from their fellow students. These students prayed heartfelt prayers, asking God to let them be a light to the world, a beacon in the darkness and to give them boldness in witnessing for Christ. They prayed for protection and guidance for themselves, their fellow students and the leaders of their schools and this nation. Many students lifted up in prayer the people being affected by Hurricane Floyd. |
| These flagpole gatherings are part of a student-initiated, student-led, National Day of Student Prayer and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual event. Coming in the wake of the Columbine High, and Heritage High | ![]() |
| School tragedies, this event is expected to draw more than 3 million students from the U.S. and at least 17 countries. Witnessing the spirit, the love for God and the awesome prayers of these young people was a moving experience. |

Much of the time adults do not realize the goodness and strength of todays youth. This Chosen Generation, as it has been called by many, could turn our nation from its wicked ways so that God will hear our prayers and heal this land. |
