"I have told you this so that my joy may be in you, and that
your joy may be complete. My command is this; Love each other as I have loved you. Greater
love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends
if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants because a servant does not know
his masters business. Instead I have called you friends, for everything that I have
learned from my Father, I have made known to you." (John 15:11-15 NIV)
Think of your best friend. Why is it that they hold that high position
in your life? Is it because they listen? They help you when you need it? They are always
there for you? Im sure that there are many reasons that person is your best friend.
Now, think of your last argument with that person. I know that with my best friend, it was
really hard on me, and I wondered about a lot of the reasons why they were my best friend.
Its really easy to forget the times that are good, when youre going through
the rough times with that person, isnt it? I know for me it is extremely hard.
Now take a look again at those verses (read them a few times, if you need to). This is
Jesus speaking here. Hes telling us what the Ultimate friendship is, and Hes
telling us how to accomplish it as well. He is telling us to Love each other. That
doesnt seem too difficult does it? Well, He goes on to tell us what Love He has for
us "Greater Love has no man than this, that He lay down His life for His
friends" How willing am I to lay down my life for my friends? That seems a little
extreme doesnt it? To Jesus it isnt. Jesus wants to be our very best friend.
He wants us to come to Him with everything, even more than what we do with our best
friends from work, church, school, or anywhere else. Jesus gave His life for us, and He is
our ultimate friend. If we turn to Him, and allow Him to be our very best friend, He will
show us exactly how to love like that, and will work in our hearts. The Bible tells us
that "He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the day
of Christ Jesus." (Phillipians 1:6) He isnt going to give up on you, but He
will keep working in your life until He comes back again. Hold on to that promise! May the
Lord truly bless you!
A child of His grace,
Becky
