Each One Reach One I recently read an Atlanta Journal/Constitution article, entitled ‘Who Do We Have In Common’. This article explains that it has been found through studies and experiments that certain people link most others together. The writer says, "The nation’s true movers and shakers are the folks who know someone who knows someone – who knows you". He explains that any two strangers can be connected by six or fewer friends and relatives, thus this connection is called ‘Six Degrees’. These are not heads of state or corporate giants, just everyday folks who "spread ideas and information" and "connect the varied and isolated parts of society. The writer goes on to give as examples, two women, Lois from Chicago, Illinois and Eunice from Tifton, Georgia. Well, that's pretty interesting, you say, but where is this story going? Are we going to find out that we’ve all made a connection to Bill Gates and he’s leaving us a bundle in his will. Not exactly, but Bill if you’re reading this, you know how to reach me! As I was reading the article I wondered if Lois and Eunice were Christians and if they told all these connections they have about Jesus Christ. Now, it has become habit since coming to know Jesus, that when I read an article about someone or see a picture, I wonder if they know about Jesus too or if they are going to spend eternity in Hell. I feel like I should write them, call them, e-mail or something although most of the time, sadly enough, I don’t. I’m like most everybody else, just to busy with the here and now and I hope somebody else will tell them about salvation. Whatever the excuse, it’s just that, an excuse. By now I’m feeling really guilty, as I should, as Christians we all should. We should all become like Eunice and Lois, spreading ideas and information … about Jesus Christ. Instead of calling it "Six Degrees" we could call it the "Each One Reach One" concept. We could each one tell someone about Jesus and how they too can receive the gift of salvation. If everyone did this, eventually the whole world would know! Wait just a minute, I’m a little late with this innovative idea. Jesus came up with that concept about 2,000 years ago when he said, "Go ye therefore and teach all nations" Matt 28:19. Tell someone you know about Jesus today. Hey, why not splurge and tell everyone you meet. |
